Hi there!
You know how some people work well under pressure and are most productive when it's down to the wire? Are you one of them? I'm definitely not. I like to plan ahead and do everything in my power to avoid feeling overwhelmed. This strategy has worked well for me as a student, in my professional career, and also as a homeschooling mom.
So what's my point? Well, even though it's only July, and not quite back-to-homeschool time, I'm already making plans to wrap up our summer learning and start setting goals for the new academic year with my son (be sure to read the featured blog this month—it's all about making goal-setting fun.) He's always been homeschooled, so all the responsibility of his education has fallen on me and my spouse. Now that my son is a teenager, he loves being able to work
independently and guide his own learning, which makes my job a little easier.
Our summer is going well so far. We've been having a good mix of fun (we went camping for the first time, tent and all) and making really good progress with my son's learning (he has mastered a few algebra concepts that eluded him this past year.) We typically have a lighter workload during the summer, so we try to take some of that extra time to review challenging topics and maybe even get a glimpse of what's to come in the next grade level.
And speaking of fun and learning, don't miss the free printables below. I have a feeling they are going to take you back to your childhood. :)
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
