New Sight Word Games & Worksheets

Published: Wed, 11/11/15

Hi ,

Sight words are words that are difficult or impossible for children to sound out....thus they must be memorized by sight.  Learning sight words takes lots of repetition, and sometimes that gets a little overwhelming.  The free games and printables below are designed to make learning sight words a tad more engaging for children so they won't even know they are learning!

If you have a second, we would love if you would share or forward this email to your friends and colleagues who could also use these free resources. Thank you so much for your support!

Learning about sight words can be tons of fun with a few simple resources! Both of my younger boys have been working hard on learning word families and phonics, but sight words have been a tad more difficult for them.  This week I've made a simple Sight Word Slap Game for them to practice PrePrimer Dolch 220 words. It seems like a simple game, but it's really tons of fun and their picking up new words super quick this way!

Fishing for sight words is a simple four step activity worksheet. Each page features one target sight word ranging in difficulty from “at” to “could.”

Children trace the word, write the word on their own, color the word, then go fishing for the word in the pond.  This is a greatway to add to your children’s vocabulary with words your kindergartner will need to know.   Start off each worksheet by reading the word with your child, and encouraging them to read the word each time they complete a step.

This fun file folder game is perfect for practicing pre-primer sight words. Children roll the die and move around the board, reading each word they land on. But watch out for crosswaks, potholes, traffic lights and mud puddles! First one to the end wins!

Dolch Sight Words is a list of 220 common words needed for reading. Sight words are words that cannot be sounded out, but must be ready by sight. This set includes 87 page each with:

Color your Word
Drawing your Word
