Hi ,

If you've been following our newsletter for any amount of time you're sure to have realized that I love printables!  They are quick and easy to print as you can find what you need and have it in your hands in a matter of minutes.  However, the cost of printing (paper, ink etc...) can add up quickly if you're not careful.  Two years ago I wrote this blog post titled 6 Tips for Using Printables in the Classroom to share ideas to reduce your initial costs.  This is a great article to read to find simple ways to save money and where to look for sale prices on supplies.  Reducing printing costs was actually one of the main goals of our newest homeschool curriculum.

Letter of the Week Alphabet Curriculum was specifically designed with these features:

  • Hues of grey instead of pure black text
    • Many pages have been designed to be printed with different colors of grey instead of black.  With such a large curriculum this adds up quickly and saves you a ton of ink.
  • Color ink usage kept to a minimum
    • Color ink is only used on non consumable pages such as letter charts (which can be bound to form a book, hung on the wall etc...) flashcards, puzzles and games. These are all resources that can be kept in the classroom for review or  future students.
  • Multiple use for each page
    • Pages have been filled with multiple activities and skills for children to learn.  Many pages have dual usage during the year as well. For example, the letter charts have been designed to be played as tic-tac-toe and the flash cards come with a sorting mat to create your own games as you progress.
  • Printing in BW will not detract from the curriculum.
    • You could easily print this curriculum in grayscale and it would still be just as fun for children each week.
  • Page order is print ready
    • There is no printing of extra or unnecessary pages. You received the curriculum in three downloads and they print in the correct order you'll need each week.  You simply punch holes and place into your binder.
  • Suggestion to Print in "Draft" Mode
    • Many people don't realize this, but there is a "draft" setting for most printers.  It tells your printer that you don't need presentation quality saturation for your prints and it can reduce your ink use drastically.  I personally printed our curriculum in draft mode and the quality was certainly up to my standards for using this with my child.
