Our first game is called Sweet Multiplication and it's a game intended to be played with Smartie candy counters. (You will need 36 counters) This game provides children with a basic introduction to multiplication by visually creating groups of objects.

Game Play: Children roll the two different dice and place them in the middle of the board.  Then using smarties they build their number on the board. If they roll 5 and 3 then they would make five groups of three. (or three groups of five) They can then use counting, or skip counting skills to reach the final number. There is space for them to translate their board into an equation.

Our second game is called Robo Rollers and teaches children about building arrays. 

Game Play: Children roll the two different dice and place them in the middle of the board.  Then using counters (36 beans, bears, acorns, paper squares...whatever you have) they build an array on the board.  Using counting or beginning skip counting skills they can then add up the total and write their final equation on the side.  You can expand this game by showing children how to draw the array onto graph paper as well.
