Hands-On with Sight Words, Names & More!

Happy New Year!
If you're like most homeschoolers, spelling is not usually the favorite subject in the house. In fact, it is usually an afterthought rather than a main focus. Why is that do you think? I think it is because there just aren't many quality spelling curriculums out there. And without great choices, it is hard to make it a focus.
Well, today I have a solution to that problem with a brand-new product
called Editable Fine Motor Spelling from The Crafty Classroom.
This editable spelling pack is perfect for practicing sight words, spelling lists, or even names, while building key fine motor skills. Simply TYPE in the word you want your student to practice and it will AUTO FILL the word into 10 hands-on activity mats. Students will use playdough, letter magnets, snap cubes, bricks, pattern blocks, crayons, scissors, and even ASL as they learn to spell their word. This set is amazing for spelling, sight word of the week programs, or even for helping
your students learn their first and last names.

EDITABLE FINE MOTOR SPELLING
$10.00
With eight hands-on activity mats, your students are in for some Fine Motor Fun! Try typing their names, or sight words, or any spelling words you want them to work on! Here is a peek at each of the interactive activities: |
Editable Tracing & Write
This is a fantastic way to introduce your student to their spelling word, as they’ll be able to see and write each letter in their word multiple times. Visual ques remind students of the stroke order and stroke direction to form each letter. We recommend placing the sheet inside a page protector so students can reuse the tracing activity throughout the week. For extra practice, you might even encourage your student to spell their word aloud as they trace.
|
Editable Playdough Mat
Rolling out playdough is a great way to improve fine motor skills. It is also a fun way to work on spelling words! In this exercise, students roll playdough into thin strips to spell their word. Students then roll balls of dough and smash them on the letters they used in the word. We recommend laminating these sheets so they can be used multiple times and the playdough is easily removed. |
Editable Letter Magnets & ASL
Learning the ASL alphabet is a fantastic way to improve fine motor skills as well as grow a love for another language. In this activity, students can build their word on the page with letter magnets or foam letters. Then they can use fingerspelling to sign their word ten times. Students check the box each time they fingerspell the word aloud.
|
Editable Build & Write
This activity is a fun way for kids to work on their visual perception as they build their spelling words with pattern blocks. Once built, students then count the number of blocks they used and write their word in a sentence or two for extra practice. Using the pattern blocks to create the letters and words is just another way to help them see and learn their spelling words.
|
Editable Dab & Paint with Cut & Paste
Little kids love to paint and using cotton tip swabs is great for helping develop their fine motor skills too. With this exercise, they can use a cotton tip swab dipped into paint to follow the stroke order of the word, giving them yet another way to practice their letters and handwriting. Then below, students use scissors and a dot of glue to spell their words. |
Editable Rainbow Trace & Path Maze
Grab a rainbow of colors and let's get started. While making their words colorful, like a rainbow, students will work on prewriting skills to improve their fine motor skills and handwriting. They can use a variety of colors to trace their words. Then students use a sharp pencil to trace the line through the path. |
Editable Snap Cube
Snap cubes are a fun way to build structures and allow kids to create all kinds of different shapes. Allow your students to build their word with snap cubes to help them see the letters and words in a different way. Students will also write their word in the empty boxes on the page to visually see how the letters are formed. |
Editable Brick Building Mat
Use what they love to help them learn and they will remember it! With this exercise, students will use LEGO™ or other classic building bricks to build their word. Then they will use some math skills and report on their build by graphing. Students also practice writing their words below on the manuscript dotted lines. |
Editable Pin & Poke Mats
In this excercise, students can use a wooden puncher or any other tool with a sharp end over a felt pad to poke the letters in their word. This is just another way to improve those fine motor skills while practicing their spelling words. Below the sample poke word, students can touch the letter dots as they practice spelling their word aloud. |
Editable Popsicle Stick Mats
Put all those colored popsicle sticks to good use with this activity! Students will create their word using popsicle sticks (full and half-sized required). They will then answer questions as to how many half and full size sticks were used to create their spelling word. Finally, students can use a popsicle stick as a pencil and trace the letters in their word. |
