Hi there!
I don't know about you but I'm always on the lookout for fun opportunities that focus on a particular topic or subject for my kids. A few years ago I learned that April is Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month (starting in 1986—I'm a little late to the game.) Since then I've tried to make sure that I focus a little more on this subject when April rolls around.
I have to be honest, my kids have never been crazy about math—and they definitely take after me on that—but since math is such an essential part of everyday learning, I try my best to make it as fun as possible. Worksheets can be a great resource, but my kids seem to do really well with two things: real world examples and games. A few weeks ago, we tried out Time4MathFacts to see if that would work on the "game" side of things. So far it's a winner!
My seven-year-old loves to play dress-up (this week she's a cowgirl-ninja-unicorn) and has a ton of fun customizing her own avatar within Time4MathFacts. By getting questions right, she earns tokens she can then trade in on more avatar items, which is extra motivation for her to do well. Then, a few days after my youngest started using the program, her big sister decided to show off a little and logged in to see how fast she could complete an activity. And then she tried again to
see if she could beat her own time. Once my little one saw what she was doing, she wanted to get in on the action and now we have a healthy rivalry going on.
While math can be that subject that everyone sighs about, there are some great opportunities to make it fun and enjoyable for your kiddos. Time4MathFacts is definitely taking most of my girls attention right now. And I couldn't be more happy about it!
